It has been an extremely long few weeks so we haven’t had time to follow up with anything.
We are currently working on 20 different lures, 8 new rods and 3 new bags. Most of these already in production with no ETA yet due to the extremely slow shipping times and supply issues due to lockdowns around the world.
We are also working with a few people who will hopefully help us give back to the community. Come check them out and catch them on their live streams or socials. Give them a follow or subscribe to their channels.
I’m a West Australian sheila who is passionate about fishing, camping & nature.
Sometimes you will find me doing cooking, including catch n cooks, other outdoor content & the occasional desktop stream.
I tend to stream when the weather looks good enough for fishing, streaming 3-6 times a week.
I have so much love for our community the splu-crew, which is full of goofy, friendly & light hearted people. We are a welcoming bunch, so please say g’day sometime!

We are looking at getting more people into fishing around Australia. To do so, we need help from the streamers who will be giving away a number of fishing rods to kids and maybe adults later in the year. They should be ready around April 2022.
Specifications; Type : Spin Length : 6ft 2 piece Rating : 1-3kg Cast Weight : 10g to 30g Guides : Generic level 3 guides Deadlift : 3kg on a 45 degree angle Action : Medium
We only have the rod in a spin design only at this stage to see how well this program will work. Anyone purchasing the rods will know that majority of the profits will go back into the program or similar programs to help get more people into fishing.
Give the Streamers a follow and see what they get up to. Interact with them, show some support, share some laughs, meet new friends and maybe learn a few things.
I will keep this short as we need to chase up some goods, design more products and test more prototypes. We will leave you with a few links below from our Streamers.
More Custom Rods
Hi Everyone,
We have recently come back from a trip to restock a few stores and tested a new light game rod. The blanks are special built like the Pelagics rods but rated for 10lb to 18lb line. This might not sound impressive but here are the details.
Specifications:
9ft 2 piece mid joint
Special mix of 30t and 40t top end carbon
Factory tested cast weight of 10grams to 50grams, recommended 10grams to 30grams.
Rated from 10lb to 18lb
Factory tested max deadlift 7.5kg at 45 degrees, recommended no more than 4kg.
Blank – 10mm butt tapered to a 1mm tip
Here is the impressive part. We landed a small eagle ray which weighed around 7kg, a shovel nose at 2kg and a few smaller fish. It is strong yet sensitive enough to feel even the slightest touch on the tip.
For thin rods, there is usually an issue with the fragile tips. We have made the tips much more stronger and gave the rod three stages of action. This is an extremely tricky task to achieve and we do not believe this has been done before.
Due to the special traits of this rod, it is a very impressive light game rod and egi rod without any sacrifices being made. It is light enough to continuously cast without the long butt with very minimal effort.
These won’t be available for a few months as you can not spin these off the production line like traditional rods. We are also waiting for further instructions from the client who requested these rods made.
For those of you who have used our rods, you would have noticed that they make whatever you are hooked into feel like the catch is smaller than it actually is. This is not a coincidence and a lot of R&D have gone into making our rods perform the way they do.
We are also going to expand rapidly in 2022 due to a lot more retailers coming on board so thank you for the tremendous support. All our current stockists have been extremely supportive and I can not thank them enough personally. Those who have contacted us directly, a major thank you to you guys for taking a chance at using our products and taking the time to message us.
We are under the pump at the moment so I will try keep this short and try to update the news more frequently.
Stay safe and tight lines.
End note – Added a video showing how our UV torches perform. We got bored in the dark but the range is quite impressive.

Late Update
Sorry for the very late updates. We have been working hard trying to get our goods delivered as soon as possible as now is the start of the land based game fishing. We do have some good news with some bad news.
The bad news is I am told there is another 3 days before I receive half of the shipment of bags. The good news is that we have received half and doing the rounds to get them delivered as soon as possible This includes the following;
1.0m kill bags
1.4m kill bags
UV torches
Tactical torches
Terminal tackle and
Solar lamps
The kill bags are the bags we are all used to. They are made with 820D TPU and come with a PVC insert. The general airtight zips, side mesh pocket and RF welded seams. From here on, all our kill bags will be sewn together first then RF welded.
The UV torches have been really getting out there and we ran out of stock faster than expected. Thank you all for the awesome support. Don’t forget you can hold the power button down while the torch is on to adjust the brightness.
The tactical torches are a really fun and cool gadget. They are Micro USB rechargeable, rainproof and quite bright for their size. I put one in my bag straight away. They’re small enough to carry around without getting in the way. USB C port, IP53 rated and built in 2600mAh battery makes this very handy. I am pretty sure they are brighter than 600 lumens but that is what it says on the box so we will stick by that.
Now, the terminal tackle. They are good. We have literally spent thousands getting in samples from various places to get high quality swivels and finally found a reputable source. Most high end terminal tackle are brass and some are coated in nickel or steel to stop corrosion. We know brass doesn’t rust but it does corrode which is annoying when you make rigs to last as long as you can. Below we have the numbers.

Small in size but highly rated. The advantage of this is having your rig come back with less resistance and weed without sacrificing strength. This isn’t an issue for most people but for droning, spinning non stop, beach fishing and such, this will make it easier.
The Rechargeable Solar Lamps have arrived but packaging hasn’t. They’re bright and have a can be used as an emergency powerbank with a 4400mAh built in battery. With 600 lumens of brightness, can be used as a torch, lamp or motion sensor activated lamp, these would be the go to for night fishing on the rocks or camp.
We are working on a large range of lures. We are happy with 3 designs and will have them in production soon. One of them are on their way to us now.
These will come with BKK trebles ready to land you your next fish. The Chrome and Gold colours are currently in Australia making their way to us.
What we are also excited about is the spoons we are designing. Spoons have been around for a very long time and in most parts of the world, they are they go to lure for commercial fishing. One of the issues we have here is we have a very limited range and need them heavier. When we have the winds behind us, getting the distance isn’t an issue if the lure is weighted right so that is what we are working on. The actions on the prototypes are very enticing. They have a nice horizontal flutter when you retrieve them. We will keep you posted.
If there are any updates, I will make sure to update this page as soon as I can. In the meantime, stay safe and tight lines.
Fishing Lures
Over the last 20 months, we have been asked to help design and make lures for clients from Australia and the US. While we have a few lures in the mix, our US client has finally confirmed their order.
We have the Zero 90 lure tested and currently in production. We will post updates when they come in but here is a look at the lures themselves.
These lures will come in 20g, 40g, 70g and 90g variations all rigged with BKK trebles.
The zinc allow body is wired through and major impact spots reinforced.
A diamond pattern surface is designed to reflect light as it gently wobbles through the water.
We incorporated a rocket-like shape with a “fin” like protrusion one the sides to add stability to casting. This eliminates the issue where the lure spins all over the place occasionally catching your line in the hooks.
Electroplated in chrome, gold, red and blue colours to target a variety of species in different conditions.
When these lures are delivered to the clients, we will post an update on our website on where you can purchase these lures.
Even though these lures are designed by us and have our branding, it is the clients’ commissioned product so at this stage we only know they will be in the US and uncertain of their availability in Australia.
New Site
Good morning or night,
We have just updated our website due to some bugs we had in the past. We tried going through thousands of lines of code to find the errors without any luck.
What this means is your old accounts are no longer working so you need to register again. We apologise for this but we do not keep your personal information on hand for your security.
The issue we had was related to shipping. We could not ship anywhere before and now added Australia Post and Sendle. We should be able to send Australia wide now.
We are still waiting for a few couriers to get back to us with rates to ship internationally so fingers crossed it will be done by the end of next week.
Website Update
Getaway Outdoors
Good evening,
I decided to keep our loyal customers updated with what we do, how we are going and the results of various products which are constantly being tested in and around Western Australia.
We have now moved to a different host provider as our last one started having issues. If there are any issues with orders or products, please feel free to contact me using the Contact Us page at the bottom of the website.
Thank you all for your patience and continued support.
Regards,
Mapheox Team
New Goods
Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone has been catching new personal bests over the last few weeks. The weather has been superb around the West Coast.
We recently had our cliff gaffs and Pelagics rods tested from Albany to Quobba Station. Here are the results.
Maph 4 Prong Cliff Gaff
*With over 30 fish landed at Quobba Station, it has been a 100% first drop hook up.
*With over 30 fish landed at Steep Point, it has been a 100% first drop hook up.
*A second group had the same results for 20 fish landed at Steep Point and so far, over 10 at Quobba Station.
*All gaffs are still solid and ready for many more trips to come.
Mapheox Pelagics Rod
*With over 30 rods out, we have had three 8kg rays deadlifted up 3 meters onto land.
*We had one person fighting and deadlifting a 9kg Dhufish at Albany and many more smaller fish being landed.
*We have had people cast out 24oz sinkers with bait without any issues and 100g lures reaching out over 100m.
*A few mulloway ranging from 16kg to 28kg have been landed around the metro areas. There were no issues turning these gentle giants before they could hit pylons or underwater sturctures.
*Everyone who has used these rods are happy with the results.
Now we get onto the exciting part which is new goods we are working on. We are sharing this as we believe competition is good. It gives us anglers more choice and more competitive prices.
Premade Rigs
We are working on drone rigs and considering making ballooning rigs if the market is there. The drone rigs are going to be rated to 90lb with 8/0 size US Kona hooks. We will be working closely with a few groups to get the right rigs made and tested before we get them in the market.
10ft PE4-6 Land Based Game Spin Rod
We also have a lighter variation of the Pelagics rods being made. This is going to take some time as Fuji parts are on a 2 month waiting list. They will be made by specialists in their field and named after the rod builder.
10ft two piece mid section joint, a delicate 30t and 40t carbon mix all imported from Japan, rated PE 4 to 6 and able to deadlift up to 8kg. The rod excels at casting 80g to 100g lures yet robust enough to cast out a 6oz sinker with bait.
Keep an eye out for this rod as the real world tests so far has fetched great results.
Mapheox Pelagics Rod
In regards to the Pelagics rods, we do not know when we will have them reordered in as these were specially built. From the carbon rolling of top grade carbon to the accessories used were more expensive than we imagined. We even had a few made with real abalone shell embedded near the grips which lasted under 3 days on the shelves.

We had a customer contact us to build them a 9ft two piece baitcaster rod complete with titanium Fuji guides. A special order to have this rod rated to specifically cast 30g to 40g lures and rated to 18lb. We have tested the blanks to find it’s breaking point. At a 46 degree angle, the blank gave way at 7.59kg. The curve on the blank would impress most anglers.
March Update
We have been waiting for a shipment of bags for over 2 months now and finally have confirmation that we will be able to restock everything by the 20th of March 2021. It has been hectic as ports overseas have been completely full. I will contact our stockists and everyone else who has been asking for goods as soon as the goods reach my front door.
Our Pelagics rods are building up a reputation for themselves. Over 300 Spanish Mackerel, 120 Tuna, 20 Dhufish, 55 sharks and 70 Pink Snapper that we know of have been landed with these rods. This might not compare with the bigger brands but we only have 150 rods in the market.
Earlier in the year, we had four groups head up north to test our cliff gaffs. Over 200 Spanish Mackerel, 20 Tuna, 5 sharks and a couple of other fish were landed. The cliff gaffs are still going strong. Most groups had a 100% hook up rate on the first drop.
New Goods Confirmed
Aerators
We have had an overwhelming response to the Solar Rechargeable Aerators and are already working on improving them. They new models will be even stronger and come with micro air stones.
Drone Rigs
On a positive note, we have confirmed premade drone rigs and in the process of making premade paternoster rigs. We are trying to secure a steady batch of BKK hooks at the moment so as soon as that is done, we can get things moving.
We will be working with a few charters to test out the rigs to make sure they hold are are of the highest standards possible.
Face Buffs
As we are approaching the cooler months, a two batches of face buffs are currently being made. We chose to go with windproof material that will keep your warmth in for one batch and another batch that helps keep you cool for those fishing further up north. We were introduced to the new material and not quite sure how it works but it works.
Dehookers
A few hundred dehookers are on the way to us right now. These are made for sabiki rigs. Not much needs to be said about this product. There is just a lack of dehookers in the local market so we decided to fill that void.
Work In Progress
Paternoster Rigs
Recently we had one of the charters contact us for quality paternoster rigs. Rigs that are built tough and armed with BKK hooks. We are currently working on securing high end BKK circle hooks to make this happen. Once we have secured the right materials, we will build then test. If the results are great, we will be bringing them to market.
Apparel
Everyone likes quality apparel that feels comfortable. Caps, hoodies, quick dry shirts and even water shoes. We have been testing this market for quite some time and we have a few samples coming in to be tested. Once we have decided which materials and design is more suitable for our environment, we will start production.
Sabiki Rigs
We all know how difficult it is to find quality sabiki rigs at a good price so we have set out to find such a product. We have narrowed 50 different kinds down to 5. All 5 models have gold colour hooks, green luminous beads, laser cut hake and good quality mono. It now comes down to durability so this will take a few months to decide.
LED Rod Lights
Over sixty different rod lights have been tested from chemical glows through to LED lights. We have even experimented with Tritium which was fun but not practical when it is $30,000 per gram of that stuff, not to mention it is radioactive. We will have a small batch of what we believe are the best rod lights in the market in late June.
There are more products being tested at the moment which we can not discuss but above are just some of the things we do.
Feel free to browse our gallery to see some great catches landed.

April Update
We would like to thank everyone for their support. It has been a very challenging year for everyone and I can not thank our stockists and customers enough. Thank you all.
We had issues with stock over the past two months as shipping took twice as long to arrive but now it has arrived, we are doing our best to get the goods delivered as soon as possible. Please continue to be patient.
LED Rod Lights
We have recently stocked a few places with battery powered LED lights to reduce the use of glowsticks. Glowsticks are still going to be the best used when it has to be submerged in water but for those who use glowsticks on their rod tips, the LED lights are a lot brighter and cost efficient in the long run. We will be delivering batteries to those stores soon. The batteries have been tested to run for over 20 hours. Considering the batteries are only retailing for $2 and can be turned on and off, these will last most anglers a fortnight of fishing.
Fujin 21
Our Fujin 21 rods are on their way to Perth. With what happened to our last shipment, we are hoping this will arrive within 6 weeks. We will rush to stock them in stores as soon as possible.
As we are tirelessly trying to catch up on order, we will keep this update short and update our page over the next few days.
Delays
We have seen delays in our fishing rods due to Covid and Fuji struggling to keep up with the demands in the market. However, the rods are 2 weeks away from reaching us.
We are also experiencing delays in having our goods tested due to lockdowns and restrictions. As most of you would know, everyone is travelling within their state for holidays and there isn’t enough accommodation available for everyone.
2022
In 2022, we plan to expand very fast. To do this, we need a larger product range and we are currently testing out a few items in the pipeline. Here is a small list of what we have coming in 2022.
Terminal tackle – Swivels, clips, snap swivels, split rings, etc.
Waterproof wallets – No more leaving your wallet in the car or bag.
Premade rigs – Drone rigs, paternoster rigs, sabiki rigs and various other rigs are currently being tested.
Artic Camo range – Redesigned bags and some new apparel for the Arctic Camo range.
Apparel – Face buffs, arm sleeves, caps, fishing shirts, pants and warming gear are currently being made for us to test their sizing and quality.
Rods – We have a few rods being tested. We will get some light game rods out for those who want to have fun landing big fish on light gear. We also have some PE15 and higher rods being made for those who don’t want to mess around being tested. There are also a few boat rods being put together as well.
Redesigned kill bags – Leaving the best for last, we have redesigned some of our bags. The new bags won’t only look better but they have more parts built in for convenience. Once they hit the stores we will upload some photos.
We wish we could upload a whole bunch of photos as we are excited about 2022. Unfortunately there are a few people out there who have taken our photos and claim it as theirs or copy our ideas.
Quobba and Busselton
The team recently went to Quobba Station in early May to test out various goods to make sure our products still live up to it’s name. Although the fishing was only decent due to water temperatures, we managed to land quote a few mixed species.
The Pelagics rods still doing extremely well. We have landed some large Emperors, Perches and a Cod. Apart from the Cod, we deadlift the rest up onto the cliffs. Spinning with the Pelagics rod, I sat down and locked up the reel to 15kg’s and skull dragged a 10-13kg cobia in before it could be lost to reef or sharks.
The Fujin 21 rods performed extremely well. So well that we are going to increase our order numbers. These were pushed to it’s limits and held up. Deadlifting reef fish up to 5kg made it so much easier. We will be working on 12ft versions.
The cliff gaff worked wonders. The weight on them made it a breeze to use and even hooked up a nice cobia from ballooning first drop. Those who have used a cliff gaff before would know how difficult it is to get a cliff gaff over a cobia so we were happy with the results.
The 1m insulated airtight kill bag performed much better than expected. We left it with one of our sponsored anglers (Stoney) to give it a run for it’s money. It will be sitting outside of his vehicle getting pelted by rocks, dirt and the weather, not to mention whatever he throws inside.
The last insulated bag we sent him has lasted over a year in the same scenario. Hundreds of crayfish and various fish have been inside the Kayak bag and it is still going strong but it is time to test other products in it’s place. Those who know Stoney will understand why having a bag last him a year is a feat in it’s own.
We tested out a special light game rod. We have shown it to a few suppliers who are keen on stocking them when they become available. They will be made in 2 and maybe 3 variations. One for light game fishing, one for squidding and maybe one for baitcasting. They are 9ft two piece rods made by experts in the field of rod building.
Most importantly, we now have two more stores who stock our products. 2 Oceans Tackle in Busselton and Tackle HQ in Albany. We look forward to working with the team at these stores to form a long term relationship.
