Zero Lure – Red

We wanted a lure that can cut into the wind or catch the wind if it is blowing from behind. It must be durable, reflective, strong, wired through, nice drop action, easy to retrieve, slight vibe action, armed with strong trebles, armed with stainless split rings and most importantly, maximize the casting distance by reducing drag. Thus we created the Zero lure.

The tail is shaped like an arrow to hold the position steady to reduce line twist yet it cuts through the air. This shape makes the lure hold it’s position so the tail is always pointing away from you. This removes the helicopter effect where the lure spins on it’s side fighting against the wind. The centre of mass is towards the back end so your line doesn’t get caught around the hook.

Having the front end textured with diamond shaped protrusions helps reflect the light and also catches the wind if the wind is behind you. It also creates a slight amount of drag in the water so your line can get a bit more tension. This reduces the lines’ bow when the wind is blowing from the side.

Having the symmetrical biconvex shape minimizes the drag from the wind without affecting it’s trajectory. After a few hundred casts, we found that even with a decent amount of wind blowing from the side, it isn’t affected as much as other shapes.

We chose a zinc allow to make this lure. This gives the lure the weight we need without having to make it too big or small.

We also balanced these lures so on a quick retrieve, these lures can bounce on the surface of the water quite nicely. If you slow down on the lure just slightly, the lure sits below the surface slightly vibing left and right.

We simply electroplated it. This keeps the lure reflective and protected from corrosion. Obviously if it is hit against the rocks too many times, salt will get to the zin alloy and start causing corrosion but these lures should last you a very long time so rusting and corrosion should be the least of your worries.

Finally the last part of the lure, choosing the split rings and hooks. Armed with BKK hooks and stainless split rings, the lure is ready to use straight out of the packaging.
