Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone has been catching new personal bests over the last few weeks. The weather has been superb around the West Coast.
We recently had our cliff gaffs and Pelagics rods tested from Albany to Quobba Station. Here are the results.
Maph 4 Prong Cliff Gaff
*With over 30 fish landed at Quobba Station, it has been a 100% first drop hook up.
*With over 30 fish landed at Steep Point, it has been a 100% first drop hook up.
*A second group had the same results for 20 fish landed at Steep Point and so far, over 10 at Quobba Station.
*All gaffs are still solid and ready for many more trips to come.
Mapheox Pelagics Rod
*With over 30 rods out, we have had three 8kg rays deadlifted up 3 meters onto land.
*We had one person fighting and deadlifting a 9kg Dhufish at Albany and many more smaller fish being landed.
*We have had people cast out 24oz sinkers with bait without any issues and 100g lures reaching out over 100m.
*A few mulloway ranging from 16kg to 28kg have been landed around the metro areas. There were no issues turning these gentle giants before they could hit pylons or underwater sturctures.
*Everyone who has used these rods are happy with the results.
Now we get onto the exciting part which is new goods we are working on. We are sharing this as we believe competition is good. It gives us anglers more choice and more competitive prices.
Premade Rigs
We are working on drone rigs and considering making ballooning rigs if the market is there. The drone rigs are going to be rated to 90lb with 8/0 size US Kona hooks. We will be working closely with a few groups to get the right rigs made and tested before we get them in the market.
10ft PE4-6 Land Based Game Spin Rod
We also have a lighter variation of the Pelagics rods being made. This is going to take some time as Fuji parts are on a 2 month waiting list. They will be made by specialists in their field and named after the rod builder.
10ft two piece mid section joint, a delicate 30t and 40t carbon mix all imported from Japan, rated PE 4 to 6 and able to deadlift up to 8kg. The rod excels at casting 80g to 100g lures yet robust enough to cast out a 6oz sinker with bait.
Keep an eye out for this rod as the real world tests so far has fetched great results.
Mapheox Pelagics Rod
In regards to the Pelagics rods, we do not know when we will have them reordered in as these were specially built. From the carbon rolling of top grade carbon to the accessories used were more expensive than we imagined. We even had a few made with real abalone shell embedded near the grips which lasted under 3 days on the shelves.

We had a customer contact us to build them a 9ft two piece baitcaster rod complete with titanium Fuji guides. A special order to have this rod rated to specifically cast 30g to 40g lures and rated to 18lb. We have tested the blanks to find it’s breaking point. At a 46 degree angle, the blank gave way at 7.59kg. The curve on the blank would impress most anglers.
